Many would agree that when it comes to taste it’s a subjective, relative thing. Tastes differ after all. Even the ancient Romans warned us: “De gustibus non est disputandum” (when it comes to tastes there can be no disputes).
There are, however, certain elements in a chosen category that most people agree upon. If we would discuss most anticipated movies of the year the consensus would most likely look like this:
- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Who isn’t hyped up about the clash of the two greatest superheroes of our childhood?
It is intended to be the follow-up to 2013’s Man of Steel and the second installment in the DC Extended Universe. The film is directed by Zack Snyder. Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter are just some of the names making the cast. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be the first live-action film to feature both Batman and Superman, as well as the first theatrical film to feature live-action portrayals of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash.
The movie release date is set to March 25th 2016 in the cinemas in the United States.
Another superhero movie, centered on the antihero Deadpool, a disfigured and mentally unstable mercenary that has accelerated healing powers after being subjected to an experiment. He is known as the “Merc with a Mouth” because of his talkative nature and tendency to break the fourth wall.
Ryan Reynolds describes Deadpool’s “breaking the fourth wall” ability as a reflection of his wit: “He’s funny and acerbic and a little bit of a head case. But he’s also not trying to be liked, he’s intentionally trying to annoy everyone. “
The movie is intended to be the eight installment in the X-Men film series. The film is directed by Tim Miller. Ryan Reynolds portrayed the character in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine and will reprise the role in the upcoming 2016 film.
Deadpool is scheduled for release on February 12, 2016, in cinemas across the United States.
- Independence Day: Resurgence
It was pretty obvious that the squid-like aliens from the original movie would eventually come back to rectify the insult they received on the 4th of July. And here they come, 20 years after the release of the original “Independence day” movie!
Director Roland Emmerich is making sure that the sequel lives up to the fame of the original and Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch all make a comeback in this sequel. But what about Will Smith?
Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. Will it be enough to stop the massive invasion the aliens launched?

- Captain America: Civil War
Yeah, I agree, not too original: yet another superhero movie and yet another sequel?!
But hey, don’t kill the messenger, blame Hollywood!
This is a sequel of the 2011 Captain America: The First Avenger and 2014 Captain America: Winter Soldier.
The story shows what happens to the Marvel Universe when the government decides to fully regulate the superhero community and how the heroes themselves split on the issue.
The cast includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as the Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widdow, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Falcon, Emily VanCamp as Agent 13, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Paul Bettany as Vision, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Paul Rudd as Ant Man, Frank Grillo as Crossbones, Daniel Brühl as Helmut Zemo, and William Hurt as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. What an ensemble, wouldn’t you agree?
The trailer broke the record previously held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the most views in 24 hours with 64 million views! You can see it for yourself if you haven’t yet:
Surely a feast for our senses that you can enjoy from May 6th 2016!
- Assassin’s Creed
The gamers among you don’t need any explanation about this one. However for those of you not familiar with the popular computer game of the same name here’s what it’s about:
Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
Along Michael Fassbender in the leading role, the cast includes Marion Cottilard, Brendan Gleeson and Jeremy Irons.
The story of the film will be a new screenplay written specifically for this purpose, and not following the storyline of the games, allowing Ubisoft to develop unique stories for the big screen while maintaining their stories on our small screens.
You can see it from December 21st 2016. I know, a long time from now! Luckily we’ll have plenty of material to watch until then!
