The Porn Industry and Lost Little Girls

Recently Kim Kardashian West posted a selfie of herself completely naked sans two bars that covered her nipples and vagina. There was a huge reaction from media personalities and celebrities such as Bette Midler expressing their negative views on what she had done. Kim replied that she was not a slut but was entitled to love her body and be proud of it. In her words “I am empowered by my body. I am empowered by my sexuality. I am empowered by feeling comfortable in my skin. I am empowered by showing the world my flaws and not being afraid of what anyone is going to say about me. And I hope that through this platform I have been given, I can encourage the same empowerment for girls (just what age is Kim talking to?) and women all over the world. I am empowered by my husband, who is accepting and supportive and who has given me a newfound confidence in myself. He allows me to be me and loves me unconditionally.”

This is so sad in the world we live in that this woman who is so popular and has been on reality TV for so many years gives out a message like that. She is telling young women that it’s ok to be naked and proud of it and let the whole world see because that is how you do in fact become famous – don’t forget that one of the huge reasons she first got famous was her infamous sex tape with Ray J. Yes, I agree – be proud of your naked body and do take care of it – but it is not necessary to show it to the whole world.

I recently watched a Netflix’s documentary called “Hot Girls Wanted”, produced by Rashida Jones. The content shocked me. I honestly thought, in a very naïve way, that most girls in the porn industry are there because they were forced into it – kind of like the movie ‘Taken’ with Liam Neeson. I honestly thought that these girls who star in porn were girls who are sex slaves, girls who don’t have a choice.

Boy, was I wrong. Apparently thousands of girls answer ads to be porn stars. They are so numb to the media and half naked media celebrities out there that they don’t think being online exposing themselves the way they do will be bad. They are so young. Most of them say it is good money that’s quick and a way of getting out of the small towns they live in. A lot believe they will be famous.

Porn Industry Girls

Unfortunately these girls are too young to realise the damaging psychological effects their choices will carry through with them forever. Porn is media. It’s documented. It will never escape you. If you have done a porno it will be there forever. So even if you stop, go to college, become an executive of a company it will always follow you and possibly tear down your career.

What about dating, marriage and children. Because these girls are so young they don’t even think of the implications their actions will have on their families. They will fall in love one day with the right guy and then they will have to explain their actions to him. If he really loves her he will stay, otherwise ‘adios’. What about children? One day their children are going to go online and somehow find out that there Mom who they respect and admire was a porn star. And what is it really for – money? The girls get paid eight hundred dollars a scene according to this documentary. What about health? They could fall pregnant, get STD’s or even AIDS.

The saddest part of the documentary I felt was when was of the eighteen year old porn stars said the biggest compliment a guy can give is when he thinks you’re so hot and wants to have sex with you. She believed that’s what gives her confidence – never mind her brains or intelligence level or soul or personality. These girls base their confidence on being sexy.

All I know is that in this world I want girls to be brave and strong, independent, intelligent and wise. They should be able to stand up for themselves, completely respect their bodies and make intelligent choices for their future.

It is just a pity that stars like Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, Niki Minaj, Rihanna and others show girls that the most important way of attracting a guy is by showing off her physical assets and sleeping with him. Recent Grammy award winner Taylor Swift just made history as being the first female artist to win Album of the Year twice for albums where she was the lead vocalist. I don’t know about you but all I know is she doesn’t strip half naked to get the world’s attention. I think she’s an exceptionally classy lady and just the kind of media presence little girls need to look up to and aspire to – that and all the amazing women out there doing amazing things in this world because that’s a whole lot more important than selling yourself like a piece of meat.
